The Malibu Life August 12, 2024
How is summer already half over already??? With time flying by, it’s time to get out there and cram in all the things you have been putting off! We can only assume that one of the essential things to do on your list includes heading out to Malibu for some sun, fun and beach. In the interest of making your time well spent, we are going to give you some insider fun things to do along the coast that don’t cost you an arm and a leg. Let’s start this week with eating and drinking.
Food is sustenance but it is also an excuse to people watch, see new things and (only in Malibu) be outside. But where should you go when you can’t get a reservation at Nobu? Try these experiences:
Recently ranked as the most popular brunch spot in the entire United States, Malibu Farm is a go-to spot for good food and better views. Malibu Farm is actually two restaurants in one: a sit-down venture near the start of the pier and a more casual café towards the end of it. We recommend the fish tacos and “plum” cocktail but you can’t go wrong! Arrive early as the line can get long, in which case you will be waiting in the sun, so be prepared. Then again, there are worse spots to be waiting.

This place is the last frontier. It’s the last stop when heading north on PCH until you get to Oxnard on Highway 1. For those that don’t know, Malibu is partially in Los Angeles County and partially in Ventura County. When headed to Neptune’s Net, you will see the “County Line” sign and the pavement on the road will change when you cross over into Ventura County. A couple minutes later Neptune’s Net will be on your right. This seafood stand/restaurant has outdoor seating, lots of motorcycle enthusiasts and an amazing mix of people stopping for a bite. The beach is directly across the street so you can watch some world class surfing and kite surfing.
If you want something a little more refined, the Malibu Beach Inn has a restaurant on the deck overlooking the Malibu Pier. It’s called the Carbon Beach Club and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is valet parking. If you get really comfortable and want to stay, the inn has beautiful oceanfront rooms. There’s nothing better than a big brunch with a couple mimosas and then napping in your oceanfront room with the sound of the ocean lulling you to sleep…
But Malibu is not only beaches and ocean!!! Head up into the hills and experience Malibu’s wine country! Cielo Farms is beautiful and has tours. Expect to spend three hours there. Then you can head to The Old Place down the street but reservations are a MUST. It’s small. It’s intimate. There are only two seating's a night. Order steak. And, if you can’t tear yourself away from the beach, another local vineyard called Rosenthal has a tasting room on PCH across from Topanga State Beach.
Hurry up or summer will be over.
